Importance of Earlier Pregnancy Detection

Why Early Pregnancy Detection Matters

  • The first few weeks of pregnancy are critical to fetal development, so early prenatal care is important to healthy birth weight and baby survival.
  • The sooner you know you're pregnant, the sooner you can begin making healthy choices for yourself and your baby that include diet, nutrition and limiting your exposure to hazards.

Conception

Every month, as a part of a normal menstrual cycle, a woman ovulates (ovary releases a mature egg). After intercourse, sperm travel through the uterus and into the fallopian tubes towards the egg. If a sperm successfully enters and fertilizes a mature egg, conception occurs. At this instant, characteristics such as gender, skin, and hair colour are determined from the parent's genes.

Fetal Development Begins

Once the egg is fertilized (unites with the sperm) it takes a few days for it to travel down the fallopian tube toward the uterus. During this critical time, several important stages of development occur.

Pregnancy Hormone Is Released

About one week after conception, this developing embryo will implant into the wall of the uterus, connecting to the mother's blood supply. When it implants, the pregnancy hormone (hCG) is produced to progress the pregnancy.

hGC Increases

The amount of hCG in a woman’s body doubles every 36 to 48 hours as the pregnancy progresses. The most sensitive pregnancy tests are able to detect smaller amounts of hCG in urine, which happens early in the pregnancy.

We Tell You First™

6 days* before a woman misses her menstrual period, the FIRST RESPONSE™ Early Result Pregnancy Test detects whether hCG is present. The enhanced technology is so sensitive that it is the only at-home pregnancy test that can tell a woman 5 days before her expected period if she is pregnant – sooner than any other at-home test.

* In one study, in 68% of the samples tested, pregnancy could be detected up to 5 days before the day of the expected period.

Take Action Sooner by Testing Sooner

Two pink lines in the results window means a woman is pregnant and she should consult with a healthcare professional immediately. One pink line means she is not pregnant. If a woman still believes she may be pregnant, she should retest in a few days because hCG levels vary between women. Some women also have difficulty calculating the exact date of their next period.

Make Healthy Choices Sooner

Detecting hCG in the urine as early as possible allows a woman to begin to make healthy choices for herself and her unborn baby, including: seeking prenatal care sooner; changing diet and nutrition; and avoiding smoking, alcohol, certain medications, herbal remedies, and exposure to certain chemicals.

Empowering Women to Know Sooner

When a woman wants to know if she is pregnant, every day can be a lifetime. The sooner a woman knows she is pregnant, the sooner she can consult with a healthcare provider for early prenatal care and begin making healthy choices. The makers of FIRST RESPONSE™™ understand that knowing sooner can relieve the anxiety of not knowing and increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy. FIRST RESPONSE™: We Tell You First.™

Conception
Planning for a family is an exciting time. If you and your partner are thinking about taking this life-changing journey, the earlier you prepare for pregnancy, the better. Taking the right steps can help lead to a healthier, easier pregnancy for both you and your baby. This video guide will get you started.

The Science Behind the Accuracy of Pregnancy Tests and Knowing Sooner

When the moment comes, you depend on pregnancy test accuracy. The most sensitive at-home pregnancy tests should be able to detect pregnancy before the first day of your expected period and should be able to identify more than one form of the pregnancy hormone hCG. For example, they should be able to detect not only hCG but also a variant of the pregnancy hormone, hyperglycosylated hCG or hCG-H.

The cell, that originates when a fertilized egg is implanted in the uterine wall, initially secretes the pregnancy hormone variant hCG-H. This hormone variant is actually produced in the earliest stages of pregnancy before the primary pregnancy hormone, hCG, which is produced immediately following implantation by a different set of cells.

FIRST RESPONSE™ pregnancy test accuracy is unsurpassed. Enhanced technology detects lower levels of hCG. The more sensitive a pregnancy test is, the earlier you will know if you are pregnant. In fact, the FIRST RESPONSE™ Early Result Pregnancy Test can detect the pregnancy hormone earlier than any other at-home pregnancy test so you can get an early start on making healthy choices for both you and your baby.

It is important to note that some women may not have detectable amounts of pregnancy hormone in their urine until after the expected period. This is because hCG levels vary between women, and because some women sometimes have difficulty predicting the exact date of their next period
